Default Introducing Pets

Hello,

My roommate has an American Stafford and I have a chihuahua/terrier mix
that have recently been introduced. The stafford has been at the residence
longer than the chihuahua and they aren't getting along. Basically the
stafford wants to eat my chihuahua.

Any suggestions?

My chihuahua hasn't been desexed and is much younger than the stafford.
They are both very territorial and neither of them submit to the other.
When they were initially introduced, they were both off leash in a neutral
park that neither had been to. They froze and started at each other for a
few moments, and then they started going at each others throats. Needless
to say, the chihuahua wasn't doing to well so we pulled them apart. Had
the stafford not been wearing a muzzle, the chihuahua would have been
seriously injured, if not killed.

So we have brought them to the house and are keeping the stafford outside
and the chihuahua inside. We have tried to get them together, and the
chihuahua seems to be making progress: wagging his tail and acting playful
around the stafford. But the stafford tries to attack the chihuahua at any
chance he gets.

If anyone has had a similar experience and has any solutions to this
situation, please post a response.

Thank you,
Corey
