Border Collie pup - exercise
Can anyone offer any advice on how much exercise a Border Collie pup
should have. I have a 10 week old BC who will soon be able to go out, having had his vaccinations. I know they have a lot of energy but am mindful of the fact he is still young and growing and don't want to damage his bones in the future. Thanks, Lynda |

Put both your time and energy in to training - it'll keep his mind occupied while his body & delicate joints grow strong. the general rule of thumb in the UK among trainers and people who 'work' their dogs in obedience & agility, as I've been told & have heard and stick to myself, is 5mins per day, per month. Eg, 5mins at 1month, 10 mins at 2months (8wks), 15 at 3mths etc, Realy try & steer clear of pavement pounding but keep as much variability in the walks as possible Diana |

I have a JRT (similar to the BC in having very high energy and exercise needs), and at 3 months she'd have gone NUTS if I'd only given her 15 minutes of exercise a day! |

Maybe its just info I've picked up for larger breeds, as my pup is - and believe me, you try & wear out a weim pup! but its information passed to me by some pretty prominent dog people in the UK Diana |
