At the Portland Pet Fair, they offered herding instinct testing. Why not try
it out?

I walked up and was told by the man offering the tests that Grant could not
participate. Being a Pit Bull and all. He started saying something about
being worried about all the kids around when I went off on him. I can't
remember how many of Grant's accomplishments and traits I rattled off before
he cut me off saying, "OK, I trust you. Let's go."

So here are pictures of Grant & the sheep, and a scan of the little
certificate he got. I doubt it is a real HIC, LOL. I don't know anything
about the HIC, if it tests for more than just whether the dog will follow
some sheep around or not.

A couple of years ago, a person in our area advertised a herding clinic,
open to all breeds, via the nwdogactivities list. I thought, kewl, I'll
take Nik. So we emailed back and forth a couple of times, and she told
me I'd be expected to post a $240.00 deposit on the sheep, since I'd be
working an 'unknown' dog. I didn't really have a problem with that.
She sent me the form, which I filled out and mailed back to her.

A few days later, I get a phone call. This lady was quite upset, saying
she didn't know I had a PIT BULL, and said I/Nikki couldn't attend. I
reminded her that the clinic ad said 'all breed'. She backed down, but
said I'd have to post a $480.00 deposit, since Nik was a PIT BULL, she'd
probably kill two sheep before we could stop her. I kid you not.

Two weeks after that, the woman calls *again*, saying the clinic
presenter was now refusing to work with me and my dog. I gave up.

Congrats to Grant.
