locating *reputable* people
Wow--2 posts in one day! Amazing what I can accomplish when the rugrats
actually nap and I decide that doing laundry isn't required 'cause I can wear my hubby's clean pants in lieu of having any of my own ;-P Anyhow: I am curious... When you decide you're interested in trying something new with your dog, whether it's agility, herding, tracking, or whatever; how do you go about find a *good* training facility? I've always done the "ask around" thing, always with mixed results: our original agility trainer was supposed to be "one of the best" and I'm still undoing the damage to Macula. I'm not saying she was a *bad* trainer, but her methods weren't right for my dog. There are local dog newspapers in which trainers place ads, but there's no vetting of the places by the editors. The web gives *way* too much information, and yet usually not enough at the same time. If I decided I wanted to try herding, or tracking, are there any national databases/organizations that would put me in touch with reputable people/trainers in my area, or is it all word of mouth?
