I once had an accidental breeding of boxer beagles. But they were in love
even when she wasn't in heat. (Lesson - never leave your in-heat female in
the care of neighbors who will send their kids - accompanied by their boxer
male - over to feed her.)

And then I saw the results of a redbone female and a male bassett. We
decided she must have "scootched" down for him. Or maybe he pushed over a
bale of hay. Or both.

or steps. when i was a kid, our largish BCish dog mated with
the Basset next door. the porch steps worked out nicely for
them. the pups, unfortunately, were nowhere near as adorable
as Bentley.

LOL! In my puppy play class, I have a very tiny 3 lb. male yorkie and a female
golden. I have the little guys separated from the bigger guys, but these two
will constantly paw at each other and kiss each other through the gate.
Somebody joked that they were "in love," and I said, "Yea, but poor Darby's
going to need a ladder." :}
