Glucosamine question
Hello!
I would like to start my dog on a glucosamine / chondroitin supplement and I would like advice as to what brand others are using and what dosage is appropriate. He is an 80 pound Lab / Chow mix. I visited my local Petco today and was amazed at how many different types there were along with a huge range of prices. An employee suggested one that she said was great - a bag of powdered supplement (approx a 60 day supply) for $32.99. Then there was a Hartz product for $21.99 and many others too many to mention. I left and decided to seek advice from the people that know best - you ! The price is not the issue - it's the quality of the product that concerns me and I will be glad to pay whatever it takes. Is something obtainable from the internet, Ebay, etc?? All suggestions are welcome. |

I'm not sure I understand how generic glucosamine could be of less quality than name brand glucosamine...same for chondroitin. They are what they are in and of themselves. I'd just recommend comparing product labels. Some probably have additives or vitamins that are causing them to raise the price, saying they're more beneficial or something. You can buy each drug separately at places like Walmart btw. -- Tara |

Hi,
I'm in the UK so not much help with price or where to buy. My dog Doug is on Glucosamine. He's a border collie and weighs 26kilo. At the moment he's on 2 tablets in the morning and one in the evening. He is taking the Cosequin DS and I bought them in the 120 capsule supply at £71.00 per tub!! Luckily his insurance covers this but like you the money isn't an issue and if he needs them that what he gets. Doug has hip dysplaysia and suffers from stiffness every now and then. I have noticed an improvement. I was sceptical as with research I discovered it is most effective in liquid form but I have to speak as I find that he does seem a lot better recently. I did search the net and found them to be so much cheaper in the US than here so it's worth shopping around. I hope your dog shows the same amount of improvement on them as Doug has. I am not going to participate in an insult slinging contest or challenge
someone's ability to share their experiences with me on this subject!!! I just want some advice and / or information on the subject and to hear what other's are using and how they are handling the situation. Also, my dog shows no signs of any arthritis or discomfort yet, and I just want to know if this is something that I can give as a "preventative" measure to promote healthy joints or does he have to be diagnosed with something first. |
