Default Cicada alert! Run for the hills!

FACT: Cicadas prey on innocent children and pets.

The ones around here must be getting pretty desperate, 'cause one just
tried to take a chunk out of me while I was out weeding. Maybe I should
check myself into a hospital and make sure there are no flesh eating
bacteria on the "bite wound".

LOL! right now, it sounds like a car alarm has been going on and on and on and
on for HOURS. Midday, variety #2's song will emerge, then later in the
evening, #3. Each variety slightly different. I vastly prefer the chirpy
sound of the evening ones (which sound most like the annual cicadas).

The little brown shells are EVERYWHERE. The red eyed buggers are EVERYWHERE as
well. I've taken to wearing closed shoes (shoes at ALL are weird enough once
summer temps hit!). I don't stand under trees. The dogs haven't started
munching yet, but perhaps they're afraid of beng munched back! ;-D

ITYM squicked. HTH!

The thing I remember best from the cicada invasion when I
was a kid was the tennis courts being coated with the nasty
things. We certainly couldn't play.

so far, i haven't seen any evidence of cicadas around my
house, which is weird. supposedly they should be thick around
the edges of wooded areas.

i've asked friends to save the casings for me. i've got a
project planned for them.

oh, and ya'll might appreciate this:
