Interesting Weekend
From both the dog and human standpoints, it was an interesting weekend. But, we only talk dog here, right? ELB visited us, and brought over his 8 month old Boston Terrier puppy. I actually asked him why he didn't get a pug if he had to get any small dog at all, so you might say that I'm not a big Boston fan. But, I've gotta admit, the little bug eyed freak is KYUTE. And, that paper someone posted last week must be right. She's part Bat and part Bunny for sure. Very little dog content there. DH, who is an avowed big dog person, was caught on numerous occasions, cradling her in his arms like a baby, and cooing to her (you have no idea how funny that is, considering that he's an 'Only sissies do that' kind of person). He was so worried that a bird or fox would mistake her for a rabbit and carry her off. For her part, Shazz (short for Scheherazade) was just ecstatic about having so much room to run around, and was bunny hopping all over the place, play bowing to my dogs, and running between someone's legs when the dogs took her up on it. She has two speeds - full throttle, hop, hop, hopping away, or crashed out, fast asleep. She got waaay more food than she should've, but she also got a lot more exercise than she's used to. She went on hikes with the big dogs, and had an absolute blast, running way up front with Khan, stopping and waiting for the humans to catch up, and then hopping away, catching up to Khan once again. I did expect it, but Pan was not happy with the little userper. She was taking away all the attention, and was allowed to hop up on someone's lap, while poor, poor Pan was so horribly deprived. What was really funny is that Shazz thought she could take Pan on, when she had enough humans around to back her up. When all dogs were given their rawhide with PB on it, she's lick hers clean real quickly, and run over to Pan's to see if she could steal it from her. She would stand up on the couch and go nose to nose with Pan, almost inviting her to just try something. Other than Pan getting mopey, everything went just fine. I am a little concerned that the pup hasn't been spayed yet, at 8 months old. The women in his life are getting all freaked out about it. I gave him my standard lecture on the benefits of spaying, and can only hope that he follows through on it. She was eating SD puppy food, but she'd only eat it with milk, and even then didn't seem too thrilled about it. He said that she was picky, but I showed him that she really isn't, when given something that might be a little better for her (Canidae). He said she wouldn't touch canned dog food, but she was begging for more, after I let her lick the spoon from feeding my dogs (Neura Beef, IIRC). I convinced him to switch her over to Chicken Soup for Puppy Lover's Soul, and am happy to report that he appears to have followed through on it. The closest small pet store that carries this sort of food also sells mill puppies, but he got his supplies at one that is farther away but does not sell puppies, so YAY! While he was there, he got her a bunch of other stuff that we had talked about, including a harness, a kong and kong stuffing (liver). Good weekend, and I miss the little monster. Pan appears to be quite happy that she doesn't have to share us with yet another dog. Unfortunately, she appears to have regressed a little on the SA front, so we've got to work on that some more.
