Fear of children
We recently (in December) adopted two two-year-old dogs from our local SPCA,
and in general they are working out great. However, one of our dogs, Betty, a retriever/shepherd mix, is terrified of children (our best guess is that while the two of them were living on the street for a year, they were tormented by local neighborhood kids). Any suggestions on how to get her more used to the idea that kids aren't inherently dangerous? I'd like to head this off at the pass before it becomes a big problem (like, she manages to escape when a kid surprises her, or, heaven forbid, she snaps at a kid (no sign whatsoever of any aggressive tendencies in her, though)). Thanks, Jon ........... Jon Moore GPG Key ID: 0x72E454B8 "The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere faith." (1 Timothy 1:5) |
