Wouldn't it be nice...
Since becoming a mom I figured that all the well-meaning, off-the-wall
advice I would get would be directed towards child-rearing. Nooooo... I was chatting with another dog owner today, and mentioned how I have to do grid-search of the backyard for dog poo before letting the boys out since I can't always watch where Macula is going when she's outside. Woman suggests I teach Macula to go in only one spot in the yard: tell her I would love to but time for such training is non-existent at the moment. She gets that I-know-better-than-you-do smirk that people get right before telling how they had their baby toilet-trained at 6mos, and says she taught her dog with no trouble at all. Oh really, I say. Howdya do that, I ask. She replies that when she cleans her yard (every three days or so), if she finds no dog poop anywhere except the one corner where she wants it, her dog gets a biscuit treat after she's cleaned up. Poop anywhere else, no biscuit. Her dog's always been unsupervised when in the backyard, he just learned to poop where she wanted through learning what continued behaviour would get him a biscuit every three or four days. Is it *possible* that a dog could be that intelligent? She *swears* he NEVER makes a mistake anymore. What's *really* going on here? Marie (curious, disbelieving, but somewhat envious anyway) |
