So, okay. In my recovery from losing Mac, I left the shelter for
several days. In my absence, a member of the 'Dog Welfare Committee"
brought in a traditional trainer to deal with Mongo, a big, exuberant,
Rottie/mix puppy. He dragged Mongo from his run, and, when Mongo bit
him, slipped on a choke chain and forced him into submission. (This,
btw, was a demonstration for new volunteers on 'how to handle a dog')
Another volunteer simply threw herself on the 'trainer" and pummeled
him. The 'trainer' ('35 years experience training police dogs') called
the police and demanded her arrest. They didn't do it.
So, okay, again. I contacted my attorneys and and am charging my own
freakin' shelter with permitting animal abuse. The "Dog Welfare
Committee' is unapologetic. "Whatever it takes to get a dog adopted' is
their position. Is it yours?

Oh, btw. Mongo was adopted later that day by newlyweds. They called
back the following morning with a complaint: "He's SUCH a bed-hog. We
spent the night clinging to opposite sides of the bed."
Doncha just love it?

There are so many things wrong with this picture, I hardly know where to
begin. What would I do? I'd start with clear guidelines as far as what
circumstances outside trainers are allowed in for. I'd get rid of
volunteers who throw themselves on and pummel outside trainers. Your
note doesn't make it clear with what level of violence she did the
throwing and pummeling, but let's guess that she wasn't truly dangerous
to the trainer, or the police would have stepped in when requested to
arrest her. Alternately, the police were wrong for allowing female on
male violence where they would have made an arrest for male on female
violence. I wasn't there and have no way of knowing. Either way, the
volunteers need to be better trained to follow the shelter's rules, and
the rules need to me more clear to everyone around including the outside
trainers.

I hope your attorneys can help you understand criminal and civil laws
better. You're getting them mixed up. One doesn't contact attorneys to
charge anyone with anything. That's for the police. Attorneys sue in
civil cases and defend or prosecute in criminal ones.

Or is this all a publicity stunt, and I'm being terribly naive?

Ah, so you smell the fish, too?

Honestly, I can't tell. I consider myself so good at knowing what's
exaggerated or ridiculous on usenet. This one has me baffled.
