how dogs respond to their reflection in the mirror
Just wondering how your dogs react to mirrors. I have observed only
two dogs' encounters with mirrors and they were very different. I have known one of the dogs sice she was a puppy and witnessed the first time she looked into a mirror; she was very confused and so far as I figured she did not quite understand what the thing in the mirror was and it drove her crazy. She stopped looking in the mirror after quite a long while of trying to figure out, and now, as an adult dog, she doesn't care for mirrors at all and turns her head away when she sees one. Quite the contrary, my 4-year old dog which I adopted 2 months ago seems to enjoy looking in the mirror and it seems as if he understands that it is a reflection of himself. Is that possible? I have to admit I have done no research on the subject, but I'm really curious as to how other dogs might be reacting. I look forward to hearing your experiences. |
