Deramaxx
I wanted to get our story out about Deramaxx before other dogs have
similar problems. Remember all the hype and concerns about Rimadyl when it first came out? There were many posts about that drug causing death and other serious problems in many older dogs. Our golden retriever has been on Rimadyl for about 5 years with no problems. We recently moved and the new vet put our boy on Deramaxx. He suffered serious side effects! Barty was diagnosed with Hemolytic anemia due to the Deramaxx. It almost killed him! I traveled 2 1/2 hours to take Barty back to our old vet who was able to diagnose the problem and put him on steroids as well as 3 other meds to try to help him improve. Two things I learned -- if your dog is doing well on Rimadyl, DON'T CHANGE! And secondly, question any vet on a change of medicine just because it's a new medicine -- new doesn't always mean better! My old vet says Rimadyl reaction occurs in the first few months. So, if you're looking at Deramaxx (doggie version of Vioxx) thinking it may be better, please look again! |
