New rescue with strange fear
I recently adopted a sweet two year old rescued neutered male Shih Tzu,
named Coco. He is a wonderful little guy and seems to have adjusted well to his new home. Our pack also consists of a rescued cat and a 10 year old rescued poodle. On thing I have noticed with Coco is that he seems to have a fear of people coughing. He is a very affectionate dog and is usually right beside my husband or myself. If either one of us should happen to cough.. or even clear our throats, his tail goes down and he quietly slinks away to his bed. This appears to be consistent behaviour. It is a good thing my husband and I do not cough often but it is amazing how many times you may give a little cough or clear your throat with out thinking. I have started to have a small bag of little treats close to me and if I forget and give a cough I quickly give Coco a treat.. which he usually accepts and then slinks away. Has anyone every had to deal with something like this before. Any suggestions would be so appreciated. Colleen, Emma, Bear and Coco |
