A senseless very sad death
I know it's hard to deal with any pet death, but mine was horrific, gruesome
and very painful. Our dog named Marty on June 14th 2004 was being walked outside in our driveway by my visually impaired husband. As Marty and Keith, my husband, walked toward our back door, 2 pit bulls came at Keith and Marty jumped between the 2 dogs and Keith. The 2 pit bulls escaped from a drug raid 10 blocks away. They mauled my baby to death. Fortunately our neighbor heard Keith screaming and got Keith in the house unharmed. When I got to the vet clinic, Marty lost his life. Keith was covered head to toe in Marty's blood as was my neighbor from holding him in the back of a truck as they rushed him to the vets. The 2 dogs that killed my Marty were taken to animal control and deemed dangerous but not vicious by Illinois state law. They were returned to their owner's mother and are still alive per local animal control. We are trying to get the Illinois law changed. Although with all our friends and neighbor's help, I still feel helpless. I can't get the thought out of my mind that next time it will be a child...All the people with the power to do the right thing, aren't doing the right thing. What happened to Marty was preventable. There had been prior attacks by these 2 pit bulls and police knew it. Yet they go back over and over. I'm trying so hard for Keith to be strong but I'm having a terrible time doing so. Thank you for listening. Kindly, Jennifer Z http://www.littleflurry.com/martyvoiceletter.htm http://www.pbase.com/littleflurry/marty |
