The ones I've known in recent years have been a 'decaf' version of a
GSD, even the showlines dogs. Less drive, less angulation, less
_obvious intelligence, less biddability. They were more like northern
breeds than GSDs. shrug

Now, before anyone screams, my recent experience only encompasses about
8, maybe 10 dogs, and I in no way mean that as a slam towards northern
breeds, 'cept to say they aren't GSDs.

Having said all that G the first GSD I remember from childhood was a
white GSD, that was restricted to it's property {or something along
those lines} due to a bite history. This dog belonged to my summer
babysitter, I was around 6 or 7 . The dog and I adored each other, and
I spent my days with him in the woods next to their house, building
forts, following trails, that sort of thing. The road to their house
ran alongside one side of the wooded area, and sometimes the dog and I
would go sit in a sunny area between the two. One day, a man was
walking down the road, and when he was near, he attempted to grab hold
of me. The dog bit and held him, I screamed, neighbors came, babysitter
came, police came, man tried to escape, man arrested. {There's obviously
some gaps in this but I'm almost 50 now, and this is how I remember it.}
The man that tried to grab me had been in trouble before for child
molestation, and this good dog lost his life for protecting me from him.

Like I've said before, I owe the dog fairy.
