Default Bichon Training

Hi. My mother got a bichon last December. She paper trained her during the
winter because it was cold and too much for her to take the dog outside during
the winter months. Now, she wants to train the dog to do her "business"
outside, but is having a hard time. The dog has been trained to go on paper
inside for so many months that the dog often has accidents. She will go
outside, but doesn't seem to give any sign when she needs to go out. Hence,
accidents. Any help would be appreciated.

Take her out so often that there are no accidents. If this means every
fifteen minutes to start, then thats what it is. Put some newspapers
outside. Praise and treat every time she goes outside.

When we potty-trained another breed like that, what we did was drag a piece
of the soiled paper outside. That way they begin to associate outside with
their place to go potty. The dog stopped going inside and started going
outside.
