Default Biting My Tongue

one of my cow-orkers was just on the phone with her son.
(the shared phone for our unit is right behind my desk.) i
overheard them talking about their dogs (son has a Boston and
she has two Shih Tzus). apparently son's Boston is uber
gassy, so she recommended that he feed him Iams, "because it's
the best food you can get." i can't imagine that feeding the
dog Iams is going to reduce his gassiness.

and, get this! the were discussing feeding amounts. her Shih
Tzus eat more than half as much as my dogs! i don't know if
that's because Iams is less calorically dense than the foods
my dogs eat or what, but i'm boggled. *boggled*, i tell ya'.

so, anyway, i've bitten my tongue nearly in half.

I feed Euk Premium Performance, made by Iams, and I have no gas at all
and my dogs hardly eat anything. My bet is, the Shih Tzus are fat....

yeah, but they aren't equivalent foods. Eukanuba Premium
Performance is significantly higher in calories, fat, and
protein than Iams.

i don't think Iams will cause the dog to be gassy. i just
don't think it's gonna fix the problem. and the claim that
it's "the best food available" leaves me gobsmacked.

My bet is, the Shih Tzus are fat....

out of shape, at any rate. they only go outside to use the
facilities, so they don't get any meaningful exercise.
judging from the pictures on her desk (they're tarted up in
their winter sweaters, which are snug around the waist), they
aren't visibly chubby. i'm betting they're plenty flabby,
though.
