Default Shih Tzu Chewing Trim & Walls

My 1 year old Shih Tzu resorts to chewing our walls and baseboards
about once every two months. We just can't get the dog to stop.

Help!!! What do we do????

Does he/she have lot's of alternative
things to chew? Such as toys, rawhide,
pigs ears, kongs, ect... My Shih-Tzu
chewed up one of my favorite books as a
pup and then I made sure she had lot's
of tasty alternatives and have never had
another problem with her chewing on
inappropriate things. Be sure to praise
her/him for chewing the right things.

Is this happening when you're at work or when there's someone home and
up and about or when you're asleep?

If it's happening when folks are home and up and about, you aren't
paying enough attention to what she's up to. grin Fix that....
grin

If it's happening when no one is home or you're sleeping, she needs to
be crated to keep her out of trouble. Crate her with a food-stuffed
small kong or other stuffable chew toy. She's not mature enough to be
left to her own devices.... yet.
