Default German Shepard - 3rd straight litter of dead pups

I am posting this in hopes that someone can give another opinion on this sad
situation. My friend had been breeding German Shepards for about 5 years using
the same male and female. Anna's first 2 litters were very healthy. Then,
suddenly her 3rd litter (about 2.5 years ago) of 8 pups were all born dead.
They looked like sizable little pups but they were just born dead. Although
concerned, he did not have Anna examined because she seemed very healthy. In
fact, her last check this past summer proved she was a very healthy dog. Then,
came the next litter a year later. Same thing. And now, she had her 5th litter
yesterday and they were all born dead again. I am at a loss. My friend is
somewhat depressed over this. He will not breed her again after this but I am
concerned that this is not normal. Any thoughts out there?

I think those pups should go in for a necropsy.

Let me see if I have this right: after the first dead 8 pup litter,
your genius friend "did not have Anna examined because she seemed very
healthy", then he gets another all-dead litter, and then HE BRED HER
AGAIN?!?

Yes, I have a thought: your friend is a goddammed ****ing idiot.
