Starting my puppy on adult food
To see if she is getting enough food, look at her body condition. Can you
see her ribs? She may benefit from more food. Can you only feel her ribs, not see them? This is ideal for a growing dog. If she has obvious fat and no waiste then she is getting too much. I think there is a chart on the back of the proplan bag. Every dog will vary. My labradors eat four cups a day of proPlan. They would love to eat more but are limited. They will eat their 2 cup meals in less than a minute. My german shepard eats all she wants and stays thin. The labradors have to stay active or they get overly fat. I tried one dog on the lean variety while he wasent showing to keep him fit but his coat got horrible. This is the only problem I have ever had with ProPlan. Sarah "Kayla" wrote in message ... Thanks for your response. That's what I've been feeding her (ProPlan). I'm just wondering if she is getting enough. I feed her 1 cup a day. Not that it makes the Labradors any less hungry but it makes my picky dog put on weight even when she doesnt eat much. Sarah "Kayla" wrote in message . .. My sheltie is 8 months old and I will be switching from Purina Puppy Chow to adult dog food and I was wondering if I should be staying with Purina or are there any suggestions from the group. She is very high energy and always hungry. I have been feeding twice a day and she inhales a half cup of dry food mixed with water in about 30 seconds and paces around looking for more. Lori |
