other dogs don't like my dog!
Hi,
I just got a mutt from a rescue place over the weekend. He is, well they think a Chow mix. But his hair is short so I am not sure if he is a chow or some type of bulldog mix. He is 1.5 years they estimate, but was just neutered last week. He has some dominance problems, mainly trying to jump on people and sometimes mount other dogs. He is very nice though, and lets me take things out of his mouth that he shouldn't have, etc. I can see when he's about to mount another dog and stop him. But even when he's not trying to mount, like a few seconds after they meet, often the other dog will just "go nuts", barking and snapping at my dog. My dog does not growl or bark back, he usually backs away, then after the other dog is gone he'll start crying. I can't see anything that he's doing to provoke this behavior, but almost every male he encounters does the same thing to him, so there must be some kind of signal he is sending out to provoke other dogs. Can anyone help with this? Even after a couple days already some of the other owners are avoiding us. |
