Instant Review - Solid Gold Green Tripe
Human: Smells like the poop of some herbivore, possibly like elephant dung. Saving grace is that it could smell like the poop of a carnivore. Dogs: 4 PAWS UP! WAAY UP! The slightly longer version: Opened the lid and thought to myself. Hmmm... what's the big deal? This is not so bad. By then, the icky odor molecules had traveled to my nose, and boy, was it bad. I let Pan lick the lid. Much to my amazement, Khan came over, sniffed her mouth, and licked her flews. Never seen him do that. Never thought I'd see him do that. Heck, he probably never thought he'd do that. Ever. Put both dogs in stays as I put the food down, as I had to run up to get some supplements for them. I've never heard such a ruckus before. I was *clearly* torturing them. Got a lot of protest about how mean and nasty I was being, that I wouldn't let them inhale that nasty stuff NOW. Never seen otherwise polite eaters chow down like this either. Notes to self: When the vile and disgusting are on the dinner menu, do not put the dogs in a stay on slippery surfaces. The puddle o' drool was ankle deep. When the vile and disgusting are on the menu, do NOT let a happy and relieved dog give you kisses. No matter how much you love them. Suja |

My four heard me reading this to Hubster, and now they are demanding that I hop in the car and drive to Petco IMMEDIATELY! Actually, I don't know if Petco carries it, and if they do, it's an hour's drive and in't gonna happen tonight. But I promised them I'd look for it. The frozen is much easier to deal with, and didn't smell as badly, and the dogs liked it every bit as much. I wouldn't buy the canned again. Shelly & The Boys |

"Debbie the Dogged" wrote in message ... In article , says... The canned bothers me because it still smells like tripe but with overtones like they tried to make it smell yummy to people (the way most canned dog food smells like Chunky soup, or something that humans might actually eat). The combination of "barnyard" and "savory goodness" put me right off. I've given frozen ground green tripe and the dogs go wild over it. The smell doesn't bother me, but I've spent a lot of time around horses. What bothers me is: why is it *green*? I've eaten tripe before (a long time ago), and as I recall, it was white or grey. -- Tripe that is sold for human use has been processed and bleached - a mere shadow of it's wholesome goodness ;-). Green Tripe is pretty much taken from the critter whole. The green part is the fact that there is partially processed food in the stomach. In the wild, carnivores tend to eat the stomach and various innards first and the thought is that green tripe is has a much greater nutritional value than say, muscle meat. I have a can of green tripe that I got as a give away at a dog show. I never got around to feeding it to my dogs and that's one of my big regrets about Zeffie. Knowing her, she would've LOVED it. I don't know if Pablo would like it since he is such a priss. I can't feed it now since Lucy was diagnosed with IBD and we're still trying to get a handle on her digestive situation. I'm not sure if half a can of green tripe would cause a major digestive crisis. If this was a can of regular dog food, I would feed a teaspoon a day and see how it goes. But, from what I understand about Green Tripe's power stink, I'm not about to store an open can in our fridge. Chris and her smoothies, Pablo and Lucy |
