Speaking of Contacts
I am in love with Rums.
She isn't doing full height yet. but her understanding of her job on the contants is fabulous. She has 2o/2o on all. I used a combo of Linda Mecklenburg (free-shape the 2o/2o - Rum has never seen a target, and would have no idea what to do with a lid) and Wendy Pape. Wendy is fabulous for contacts, if you want to hit a seminar. I used a board and just trained Rum to run to the end of the board and stop in 2o/2o. We worked with me in different places (I usually toss her reinforcer out in front of her after her verbal release). And with me sending her from greater and greater distances. I am very very pleased with the transition to the actually equipment. The behavior is incredibly strong by this point as she had done so many board reps and goten reinforced for it. I actually did have to stop working contacts as she has a BAD case of contact suck - we are starting short (2 to 3 obstacle) sequences - jump jump tunnel for instance. I know most people won't go to the trouble, but ever dog I want 2o/2o is going to be taught this way. -- Melissa S. Frye Skyrocket cockers www.mfrye.com/skyrocket/ |
