Shih Tzu - Severe ear problem, HELP
Hi,
My dog, a Shih Tzu, has been suffering from ear infection and lost his appetite and experiencing body balance problem. We have taken him to a Vet(s) and they don't know what exactly has happened on him. Symptoms: 1. Very painful ear - When we touch his ears or attempt to clean them, he will moan and shiver, so I suppose that he feels very painful with his ears. The Vet has given us some ear droplet to apply on him twice a day but that didn't really help. 2. Lost strength - He used to be very active and he could only walk slowly, step by step now with great caution. 3. Lost appetite - He doesn't drink and eat as much as before. Good thing is he still eats, but only drinks a little bit. 4. Lost body balance - It could just be caused by the lost of strength, but he occasionally lost body balance and acts like drunk people. 5. Walk with bent spinal cord - When he stands or walks, his spinal cord seems to bend to one side and he tends to walk in clockwise. We are going to send him to a specialist for further investigation, however, if anyone has any clue on what illness he is sufferring from or recommendations on what we can do, could you please kindly send me an email? Many Thanks, Ben |

A bad ear infection can affect balance and coordination, which sounds like
wheat your guy is experiencing. His infection may be bad enough to where a couple of drops a day aren't going to do the job. he may need to be knocked out so that they can get a better look in there. Sounds to me like he needs systemic antibiotics... probably by mouth...
in addition to the drops. Yes, he needs to be seen by a more knowledgable vet. Something more than a simple ear infection is going on.... perhaps an infection in the middle or inner ear.... or a neurological problem of some sort. Jo Wolf Martinez, Georgia |

But would an ear infection happen all in a sudden and became that
severe? He was fine the night before, we didn't notice any big differences on him in last few days until 3 days ago we found that he was less active, gradually lost his strength and became very inactive. Then he started to lose body balance sometimes. These all happened in 1 - 2 days time. "ZPL" wrote in message news:FHcwb.1623$LV1.1356@okepread05... Yes. Once those inner working in the inner ear start to swell, it does not
take long. "Ben Wong" wrote in message om... But would an ear infection happen all in a sudden and became that severe?
