Because when you're not looking those squirrels, the same ones who seem like they're not hurting anyone, send silent signals of torment to dogs. I know the squirrels around my house torment Fancy and they do so purposely. You'd have to see it to believe it but the little buggers will purposely do things to get her attention and then they'll move *just out of the way* and stare at her. Ever seen a 65lb Boxer go airborn at top speed only to ram into a privacy fence and slither to the ground in a daze? This is what the squirrels do to her. They also come down the tree trunk, make squirrelly noises to get her attention and then scoot back up to where they are about 1' higher than the highest point she can reach by jumping. Then they stand there, staring down at her, flicking their tails jaunily and making noises. And to make it worse they became a massive problem in my attic, on and off for years, and would torment her by making scraping noises overhead. She couldn't see them but she knew they were up there. I've had to chase off the Boxers in White Coats several times because the squirrels are messing with my pretty girl's head. -- Tara |

My squirrels come to watch the Viva and Cala show. I have a double window in the living room. Swear to doG the squirrels come and sit in front of that window, calmly eating their walnuts perched on their back legs just to watch the dogs go nuts. Two Dobermans in slavering, teeth gnashing, growling, barking fury, leaving long trails of doberman spit all over the window. I can almost hear one squirrel saying to the other, "this is better than TV isn't it dear?" |
