Default Real Life Training Opportunities

I just realized that I'm missing a great training opportunity with Madigan.
Whenever I'm on the toilet, that's her time to come get some hugs and kisses
and butt skritches.

So a few minutes ago, I spent the time asking her for "left foot" and "right
foot," and rewarding the right choice with rubs and skritches.

If I can think of a non-crude way to phrase this, I may use it when I'm telling
students to be aware of real-life opportunities to train. :}

Um, okay. This is just really disturbing.

My dog visits with me like yours does, although mine uses the tub to elevate
her front end to make her tummy more available to me for rubbing. I find it
kinda cute. She trys this with my husband too, but alas he's facing the
wrong way and to be blunt.....he only has one hand available. Lol.

There is a great, older article called "Training in the Kitchen" by
Ruth Bridges. When I began apprenticing w/ the pet dog trainer I
worked with several years ago, it was one of the first articles she
photocopied and gave to me. It deals with both competition and
pet obedience, since the theory behind it is that anytime, anywhere
is a good place to work on things with your dog. It's sort of something
I've tried to adopt with my own dogs.
It first appeared in "Off-Lead" magazine, Oct. 1989. I did a quick
Google, and came up empty. If you're interested in it, let me know.
It contains nothing "earth-moving", yet good, simple reminders of
things we can do anywhere, anytime.
