Default HELP needed ASAP

my dog tries to jump up on the table. he did it today when I wasn't there
and he ate my nephew's food. My sister was home, I wasn't. My mom said if
he does it again, he will have to find a new house. I believe her. She
will kick him (rather us as I will never get rid of him) out. what should I
do? she I squirt him with water when he tries to jump on the chairs? I
don't want to have to smack him bottom or nose or something like that.
Should I feed him from the table so he is not so desparate to get up there?
or will that make it worse? right now, he NEVER gets anything from the
table. thanks for any help.

If your mother and sister are unable or unwilling to provide adequate
supervision, crate him when you are not home.

Good - that wouldn't make sense. A leash is a great tool that is at your
disposal. Any obedience classes yet? Push the empty chairs in under the
table.

It would make things much worse. The best thing you can teach your dog is that
when people are eating, he should be in a down - either near the table or at
his "place". A leash is usually necessary to accomplish this. Put the dog on
leash, sit in your chair on the leash, so he has enough room to lie down but
not so much that he can get in your lap. Correct any attempts to jump up,
quickly, to the point, and go back to IGNORING him as quickly as possible. I
recommend that no attention is given to the dog while you're at a table.

If you feed him from the table, you'll never get rid of him at mealtime. :}

Crate him during mealtimes. The most important thing initially is to ensure
that he never, ever, ever gets rewarded in any way for jumping on the table.
He just got a huge reward, so right now prevention is key.

For training, set up "sting" operations. In other words, do it when you can
concentrate on the dog and not your meal. Sit at the table eating, and require
him to hold a sit-stay. Start off with very short sessions - a few seconds, if
that's all he'll hold. As a reward, take some food from the table and give it
to him in his bowl, then leave the table. Work up to longer and longer
sit-stays before you end your "meal" and give him a reward.

What you will be training him to do is to wait patiently until you are finished
to get what he wants. So use a cue to signal when you're finished, either
verbal or visual.

Once he understands what you want of him, crate him the second time he breaks
the sit-stays. For example, if he's fairly reliable holding 3 minute
sit-stays, crate him if he breaks before 3 minutes twice in a row.

He will be used to being in the crate during mealtimes, so you won't really be
using the crate as a "punishment." Look at it as a demotion.

If he fails often, though, you're asking for too much too fast.

You have to work on it until he forgets that he was ever able to get food by
jumping on the table. :}

why don't you tie him outside during the meals and if he try to go on
the table do the same go tie him and verbally reprehend him . He needs
to learn it's not ok to jump on table.

I would also suggest you go a do basic obedience training you need to
learn how to control your do,, good luck

You are simply full of ****.

Yes, I tried Howe's crap, and it didn't work. When I asked for advice,
I got berated. "You can't outwit the cunning of the domestic puppy
dog!"

If you support such an asshole, you have issues...

You honestly can read what he writes to folk and feel he is a good
choice for people to trust?

Look - when I see someone that treats people as pieces of dung, there
is something wrong.

I may have been harsh in my response, but - come on - the guy is a
lunatic. Read only a handful of his vile messages and you have to see
that.

There are too many good dog trainers or books out there to devote
oneself to someone like Howe.
