Default Another swallowing episode

Dogs can have acid reflux.

The fact that these episodes tend to occur at night is helpful.

When do you feed your dog?

Also, you could try a course of Pepcid AC (check with your
vet for the right dose.)

My vet did this in trying to address my dog's vomiting and
becoming lethargic. The Pepcid AC was not helpful. Apparently
my dog has a gall bladder problem.

Another approach would be to administer antacids when your
dog is having one of these swallowing "attacks." Again,
I would check with the vet for the right dose but my
dog would most likely chew up some fruit-flavored
antiacid tablets.

Here at the Medical College of Wisconsin there is Ivan Lang.
He is a DVM, PhD who specializes in the study of dysphagia.

I could not find an e-mail address for Dr. Lang but this
is his home address:

Ivan M Lang, (414) 228-5195, 6931 N Beech Tree Dr, Milwaukee, WI

53209

Dr. Lang often has letters published in various Milwaukee newspapers,
so he should not be surprised if you were to write him.

Here is a list of specialists:

But only Lang is a DVM.

Please keep us posted.

Marshall - Thank you for the information!

Just thought I would post a quick note regarding my dog and another
swallowing episode he's having right now. His last indcident was
around the first of the month. Nothing out of the ordinary in regards
to diet or activity. I'm at a complete loss as to what is causing it.
He is fed twice a day once at morning around 7am, then again at evening
around 6pm. He is fed 1/2 cup "Science Diet Puppy Formula" mixed with
1/4 cup "Science diet - Perscription" can formula. He has been having
normal and regular bowel movements.

Last night around 2am he awakend me with the all too familar gulping
sound he makes when he can't get comfortable. I administered an
anti-acid of 1/4 tablet of cherry flavored 'rolaids'. And about an
hour later (3am) I followed with .08 ML of liquid baby 'Tylenol' as
directed by my vet. Nothing seemed to help. His symptoms lasted thru
the night as usual and gradually became extremely accute, to the point
that I became very worried and rushed him to his Veternarian. At last
the nursing staff at the Veternarian clinc I take him were finally able
to see what I was trying to decribe to them the last time he was
brought in for this. Her first reaction was that it appeared to be
some sort of "sore throat". And described his symptoms as "sort of a
hard swallow".

I'll be phoning the Vet in an hour or so once she returns from lunch.
I hope to have more information then.
