It's not so much that it settles the stomach, but that it acts as a binder for soft stools - i.e. it's a help with diarrhea. -- Melinda Shore - Software longa, hardware brevis - The Bush administration is basing its tax policies on projected GDP growth of 4.4% while basing its Social Security arguments on 1.8% growth |

If it alleviates the symptoms of diarrhea it would also sooth the stomach (reduce gas). |

Anyone else hear of this? ================================= JMO Pumpkin is a Fibre and aids in consistency in bowel movements. It can aid loose stools as well as constipation. It works in the intestines more than the stomach. It may relieve the cramping of the stomach that is related to bowel problems but does little for gas. Lemon Juice is good for upset stomachs. 1 tsp in their breakfast will reduce the acidity in the stomach. -- K9Care ================================ |

"grinder" wrote in message .net... How could it help to control diarrhea while at the same time easing constipation? ..........that's the 64 thousand dollar question! I think it's the nature of the fibers present in pumpkin. For dogs at least (cats can't convert beta carotene) perhaps the beta carotene also helps heal up an irritated bowel. buglady take out the dog before replying |
