Default Help identifying breed please

After losing our 4 year old Rottie to a brain tumor recently, my wife
and I have just adopted a great new dog from our humane society. We
where told he was a mix of 2 particular breeds. I would like to hear
some opinions of what breed(s) you guys think he might be. He is aprox.
1 year old and was found in the philadelphia area as a stray. He is the
most well behaved one year old I have ever met and wants nothing but
our attention. I will let you all know what 2 breeds they said he is
after hearing some of your opinions so as not to influence your
thoughts...

Well, that's one cute dog no matter what he is. I love the brindle
coloring, and white blaze on his chest. He looks very pettable.

I see lots and lots of Boxer in that boy, and not much else. If they really
think he's two breeds, then it would have to be something that looks a
little boxerish - American Staffordshire, maybe? Lab would be a stretch,
but I would believe it if you told me.

Enjoy your boy. If he really is a Boxer mix, you're in for a good time.
I've never seen a breed so interested in having fun than Boxers.

Pitbull and/or American Staffordshire Terrier and/or American Bulldog is my
guess. I don't see any Boxer.

i kind of think the ears look a little boxer-ish, as does the short muzzle,
but could be Am Bull too. i'd think an Am Bull would have more white on
him, but i don't know enough about coat genetics to figure that out. i'd
like to see a side view of him standing, to see how much tuck he has.

the other half is definitely pit or am staff though. it's amazing how much
like Manu he looks.

I've never seen a brindle AmBull but I've seen several purebreds from the
different prominent lines/types, a few of which were brought into rescue
mislabeled as Boxers.

Two were very AmStaffy looking in the face but were more Boxer height,
prominently muscled, scissor-bited and their eyes were almond-shaped but not
slanted IIRC. Basically they looked like a Boxer/Pit mix. They were fawn
w/white markings.

Two were huge (males about 90lbs and roughly 28" at whithers), solid white,
droopy-joweled, under-bited dogs with rounder eyes and a ton of forehead.
Their physiques were not as muscular as the other two.

They didn't look like the same breed but they were, just from the two
different but distinct lines. The ears on the colored AmBulls were natural,
more like those of a Boxer, and had a nice fold. The ears on the white ones
were super-thin and hung limply at the sides of the head. All dogs had the
barrel-body you expect from an AmBull and the U shape at the front assembly.

these are the lines i see around here. i much prefer this look. many of
them are mostly white, however, with fawn or brindle patches. Lola used
to play with one as a pup. they were the same age, and people thought they
were brother and sister. by six months old, the AmBull was half again her
height. she still gave him a run for his money though! :-)

yeah, the "johnson type". i don't like the pronounced underbite, it doesn't
seem to go with the idea of the Am Bull as a "working" breed.

i've also seen AmBulls with cropped ears *and* tails. they looked like fat
boxers with bad crop jobs. :-)

I would say Rottie/Pit Bull breed as predominant breeds, but he looks like
he may have more mixed in as well. He has the markings of a Pit, but the
shape of his head and body are very similar to a Rottie. I've seen pics of
dogs known to be Rottie/Pit and they look almost identical.

He is a gorgeous dog though and if you educate yourself on the breed (if you
haven't already) then you will have a wonderful dog

I have 2 Pits myself, and I will never have any other breed
