Need Advice on spooked lost dog
This is my first post here, and I am not a dog owner, but have a
dog-situation. This afternoon we were out for a walk when a couple drove by us to report they had lost their dog. The dog was hit by a car approx. 1 mile away several hours before, got spooked and had been running around the woods (northern NH) all day. We helped the couple look for the dog by driving around. We saw the dog, sprinting in the road approx. 1 mile from where she was last seen. I jumped out of the car in time for the dog to whiz by me, into the woods at full speed. I had no hope of catching her. It is now dark, snowing heavily and quite cold (20 degrees). This dog is going to be in the woods all night. She is reportedly a shepard/rottweiler mix, and NOT from this area - they are visiting, and was just adopted from a shelter 6 months ago. My question is, will the dog survive the night, is there anything that can be done to "calm" the dog if we see her again, why would she be so spooked all day long to the point of running furiously through the woods? Is there any hope? Thanks, Meghan |

"wj" wrote in message If she can see you, drop to your knees and pretend to be digging. Thanks Bill. That's a good one to know about. The problem is, no one has seen her in almost 24 hours. As far as I know I was the last one to see her sprinting into the woods - I mean like a streak of lightening. No time to make any posturing at all - she wouldn't have even seen it. We've been out most of the morning, as well as the owners, hoping she's calmed down since then. There are signs around the neighborhood, we've called the police, humane society... we'll put an add in the paper and at the grocery stores. Pretty much that's all there is to do. It's horrible. This group has been great though - thank you all. I'll post if we find her! Meghan |
