Bichon Frise Stud Wanted
Hi,
I have a seven pound champion blood line Bichon female, 9 1/2 inches at the withers. She has show ribbons. I am seeking a less than 10 lb stud, preferably near New Orleans. We have had bichons for over 20 years; she is our fourth. We had three litters with our late female Gidget. Love to have puppies and understand the work involved. Please respond. |

Is she pointed? Or is this like the guy who bragged a few years back that his dog beat 7 others but when someone looked up the show results the other dogs were all no shows and his dog had had winners and breed withheld to boot? I'm just really trying to figure out what you're actually saying here. There's ribbons and then there's ribbons, you see. I'm usually not much for jargon, but there *are* times it's necessary and this is one of them. So if you'd said "she has ten points, both majors, and a group placement from the classes" that would tell an educated person a lot. But "she has show ribbons" just doesn't. Can you elaborate, please? Dianne |

Dear Kelly'
Make money on breeding a pet? You're not serious?! Kingston's Lady of Shiloh won first place ribbons at the Mississippi Kennel Club show at Jackson (1/03), at Houston for the Houston Kennel Club (3/03) and at the Greenville Kenel Club Show (1/ 03) plus a reserve winner ribbon at the latter. Winning first place ribbons means the dog has no disqualifying faults at minimum. Frequently judges give a second or third place ribbon with only one entry if they believe the only entry is of inferior quality. Of course the grooming, lodging, entry fees are all " free" to your thinking. Our dog has excellent temperament, loves all dogs (pit bulls and great danes, too) and has excellent coat, 3 Champion grandparents, parents with points, great proportions, good pigment, etc. There are few Bichons of half her quality in the Gulf Coast Region ergo I have a list of people who would love a puppy. I will breed my dog for love of the breed, for the joy of raising the puppies, and knowing full well that no money will be made from the breeding. |

BIB? BIG? BIS? please explain this a bit more. my dog has "ribbons" from pound pup and rescue "competitions", does that make her breedworthy? heck no! -kelly |

Dear Robin,
Thank you for all your kind remarks. As, you may have noted, I have had 3 litters of puppies in 20 years. I hardly would consider this "pumping out litter after litter." Most of the dogs in the shows are in the 15-17 pound range, much too large for my Lady. With my 15 pound (late) Gidget, this would not have been a problem. Lady has an excellent disposition, good proportions, great pigment, no allergies, beautiful coat, and a very slight underbite. We've taken her to Dr. Duke, a vet orthodontist, in Mobile who said this is a minor cosmetic problem (could be corrected by braces but this is forbidden in AKC shows) and he would not discourage breeding her in light of all of her other atributes. My daughter, a veterinarian in N. Carolina, agrees, as does Dr. Pelle at Causeway Animal Hospital here. None of the vets, the groomers, the obedience or conformation trainers my dog has had know of any quality small intact males in this area. They advised looking on the internet or advertising in the paper. There are no Bichon Clubs in this area. Lady came from Pa. where we used to live. One of her direct line, Panama Jack, was the stud champion for Gidget. My dogs are known there. I still hear from people who love my puppies. We were going to co-own a show dog but were transferred to Warsaw, Poland, Our Bichons flew business class on Lot Polish Airlines instead of in the luggage compartment so we could be more comfortable on a more luxurious airline. But we're just in it for the money. I volunteer as well at a nursing home on Mondays, at a hospital Thursdays and Fridays, and at Church--all for the money!! God bless! |

Lady has first place ribbons for the 9-12 month females as well as
puppy best of breed for AKC shows in Jackson and Greenville, Mississippi (!/03) and from the Houston Kennel Club Show (3/03). There's also a "Reserve Winner" ribbon from the Greenville Kennel Club Show. This means to me that , while she may have minor flaws, she has no major disqualifying ones and is of better quality than anything I've seen while looking for a dog in this area. I bought her from a breeder (kingston) whose champion stud services I used when we lived in Pa. As a prospective show dog she cost $1500. Her parents have points and 3 of her grandparents are champions. |
