Innova Evo, too high protein???
I just saw a new dog food by Innova called Innova Evo. It is supposd to
be a "low carb" food with no grain. It's nutrient profile is 42% protein, 22% fat, 2.5% fiber, 10% moisture. Is that to much protein for older dogs? (7 and 10 year old greyhounds) |

Certainly - protein levels for an older dog should be within the range
of 15-23% - (Small Animal Clinical Nutrition 4th ed, page 223). The Madison Ave marketers are at it again. They know pet owners naturally assume that whatever is good for them - must also be good for the pet. A low carb or no carb diet is the latest fad in human weight loss nutrition - lots of good press and lots of people selling you on the idea. So a pet food company that is tuned into marketing instead of nutrition science figures they can make a buck selling you an Atkins diet for dogs. It's a simple case of marketing running the business instead of nutrition science. |
