Methinks your elkhounds are not entirely thrilled about being brushed. :} For more information, check out "Calming Signals" by Turid Rugaas. She has a book and a video. I'm sure it doesn't mean boredom; or does it?. Can anyone help me out here? According to a pet-assisted therapy class I took, for lots of dogs yawning (and lip licking) is both a way to calm themselves down (in other words a sign of mild apprehension) or sometimes a signal to others to calm down. As in, "Hey, look, I'm yawning--I'm calming myself down. You can calm down too." In theory, with dogs like this you can sometimes calm them down by yawning or licking your own lips. I haven't really observed this behavior in my own dog (she yawns but it doesn't seem to be related to anxiety.) but that's what they taught us in this class. -Peter -- Peter Seibel Lisp is the red pill. -- John Fraser, comp.lang.lisp |
