Default Thorny plant inedable to a dog?

I'm trying to find a tall (maybe 4-6 feet) prickly perrenial bush that
would taste bad to a dog -- but not so bad to be dangerous. It should
be thorny enough that a dog would want to steer clear of it.

Ignoring the obvious George Bush jokes, does anybody have any
suggestions whether or not something like this exists?

Note: I'm in Maryland.

Ignoring the obvious George Bush jokes,

How can they be avoided?

Holly?

Hmm, that's a great idea! Do you know if the berries can cause a
problem if ingested?

.............Shrub rose bush. There are new varieties resistant to black
spot. Brambles - raspberry, dewberry, blackberry. Check with your county
extension office for hardy perennial bushes in your area or U. of Maryland
website for online FAQ sheets on plants.

.......why does it have to be thorny? Your dogs chew on bushes? Or stomp
them to death?

........things that taste bad usually are bad. The best you can hope for is
a thorny non-toxic plant.
