· Are you an Accredited Breeder -- www.accreditedbreeder.org? It was fascinating to see who the "Accredited Breeder" organization stole their website design from http://usgovernmentinformation.com/check_my_orders.html And to see the images stolen from that site. Not exactly a credible organization. Which is hardly a surprise as Michelle has a history here and it is her phone number that is given as the organization's number. -- Diane Blackman http://dog-play.com/ http://dogplay.com/Shop/ |

"just asking that members comply with the breed club code of ethics the
application limits compliance to number/frequency of litters." But don't some breeders breed when the bitch is like 8 months or earlier maybe? |

"just asking that members comply with the breed club code of ethics the application limits compliance to number/frequency of litters." But don't some breeders breed when the bitch is like 8 months or earlier maybe? Sure, but age of breeding is not the only important point to hold breeders to in regard to the breed club code of ethics. The breed club code of ethics is a minimum. Most codes of ethics are not sufficient to describe a responsible breeder although they are increasingly heading in that direction. Fr example, te Rottweiler club's "Mandatory Practices" sets the bar high, as it should. If everyone followed it many thousands fewer dogs would die. Here are some clauses from a typical code of ethics which are important factors in responsible breeding: 4. To ensure that my dogs are not a nuisance to my neighbors or my community. 6. To accept full responsibility for every dog that I breed. To sell on a contract that ensures that I am contacted whenever the owner cannot keep a dog at any time in the dog's life. To assist in the placement of the dog or accept its return. As owner of a stud dog, to offer stud services only to those breeders who accept full responsibility for what they breed. 7. To under no circumstances, surrender a dog or a puppy to a humane society or shelter. If the animal is unplaceable because it has a destructive temperament, is seriously injured, terminally ill or it would be inhumane to prolong life, to take responsibility for the euthanizing of the dog. 11. To never supply an animal to pet shops, commercial brokers or dealers, raffles or similar projects. A breeder who fails on any of these points is not a responsible breeder. -- Diane Blackman http://dog-play.com/ http://dogplay.com/Shop/ |

This is good advice, my wife bought me a dog for my 27th birthday. I
had a love for beagles, she had a love for Aussie Shepherds. She saw an ad in the paper for Aussie Shep-Beagle mixes for sale, only $50. She picked him up at a farm outside of Phoenix. She brought him home a, a cute little brown, white and black puppy with floppy ears. Now, two years later he has grown in to a monster size dog with a head the size of a Beagle. Sure he howls like a beagle and he loves to follow his nose, but we have yet to see any resemblence to a Aussie Shephard. We think he is more like a Collie or German Shephard. He is big and has an intimidating bark strangers, so we are wary of him around our 1 year old baby. We are doing everything we can to socialize him, but we are not sure about his history and we think he was taken from his littermates too early. We don't want to get rid of him yet, because we fell in love with him. So we only let the baby near him when he is muzzled and we are supervising. But in the future, we will certainly follow the advice above. |

A good quality training class will give you the skills to better wrok with your dog. this page may offer some resources in finding such a class http://dog-play.com/behavior.html -- Diane Blackman http://dog-play.com/ http://dogplay.com/Shop/ |

Starting an "organization" in order to try to make themselves look better seems to be going pretty far, but hey - whatever it takes, right? *g* Of course not everyone is so easily amused... look what someone forwarded to an email list I'm on today: ----- Forwarded Message: Subj: [SD-L] Warning from Westminster Date: 3/14/2005 9:44:12 AM Eastern Standard Time We have been advised recently that an organization calling itself "The Accredited Breeder Foundation" is claiming on its web site ( http://www.debateinfo.com/index.htm) to have some affiliation with The Westminster Kennel Club. We assure you that this is not the case. The person / organization at this web site is unknown to us. We have never heard of this organization and we have nothing to do with it. They use many names in their listing of winners and board members that are identical or at least similar to names in our history in an apparent attempt to bring some credibility to their organization. Our legal people are pursuing this even as we speak. Please cross post and share my response freely. David Frei Director of Communications The Westminster Kennel Club www.westminsterkennelclub.org |
