Default Pug in Florida?

I really like Pugs, but I'm told they have real problems
when it's hot. Would a Pug be OK in Florida, or would it
just be cruel to the dog?

If you keep the dog indoors where it's air conditioned, it would be fine.

It *does* need to go outside daily :-) How strict timewise do I need
to be on walks?

depends on where you are in florida, the season, etc. Heat index is
probably the biggest clue - the combo of actual heat + humidity. I
live in an area that gets H&H in the summer only and *I* personally
wouldn't own a pug - too restrictive due to the weather. I have
clients who do, but admit that a bathroom outing is all they can do
somedays - i.e. - out and right back in.

Zoe's half chow and solid black and is very sensitive to heat -- I'm very
sensitive to humidity (note to self: how did we wind up here???) -- if
the heat index is over 90, we don't go for a long walk.

She came from the shelter and needed a home but I sure don't know why
anyone who lives in this climate would *purchase* a chow. They're a
northern breed. How they became so popular here is a subject that causes
me to rant, so I'll stop now.

Yep! I have 3 pugs and when it's very hot, or very cold...they just go out
for a potty, then right back into the house.

I live in Nebraska and the heat index can get pretty high and they don't
like it. But I don't like it either, so we're a good match.
