Default Dog hit by car - your opinion ?

10:30 Sunday Night:
Neighbors dog, 95 pound big lab, hit by car.
Received a 2.5 inch x 1/4 inch seperation in the fur (outside "skin")
nose area between eye and mouth. (clear of mouth or eye).
There is a split, so the fur moves around and you can see the actual
outside skin layer underneath. (but no blood).
They asked my opinion several times,
told them, I would take him to the 24 hour vet and have the tear sown
up tonight - and they, eventually decided to take the dog in the
morning at 7AM. He was totally "normal" otherwise.

I know it is difficult to make a judgement site-unseen,
but what are YOUR thoughts about the injury and treatment.

Exactly the same...VET NOW!!!

How do they know the dog is normal?
He would have had to have been hit hard to sustain that injury.

Obviously if the dog is allowed out to roam...they are not very responsible
owners.

where did it say the dog was "allowed to roam"? You have NO IDEA why
the dog may have been loose. There are more possibilities than one
can imagine. To automatically label someone as irresponsible, is
pretty judgemental, isn't it?

You don't know that those don't exist. ACCIDENTS are called that for
a reason. So many possibilities....... just hope the dog is ok and
the vet has checked thoroughly.

That's faulty reasoning. I have a 6' privacy fence around my large
backyard. Only one of my dogs has ever been allowed outside off-leash.
Didn't stop others from escaping, including a deaf dog who was close to
impossible to catch, most often when my MIL or a child who was over playing
opened the front door to come or go and stood there with it open. Dog sees
opportunity and takes it. That has happened more times than I can count. I
know people whose dogs have escaped because someone unwittingly left a gate
open or didn't latch it correctly. I, and other such people, would be
offended at the assumption that we were bad owners (as one poster said) or
that we didn't already have confinement means in place. **** happens,
thankfully it doesn't happen often, but you really can't plan that well for
it.

This is a follow-up to last nights event around 11PM.
The neighbor took the dog out back,
the dog took off after a coyote,
ran across the road and got hit.
The dog had a 3 inch gash on the outer fur/skin,
but did not break the inside skin. (just imagine
skinning an animal).
This is a dog that the neighbor received from
me 3 years ago - hence them contacting me.
I spent about 20 minutes with the dog.
I felt the dog needed immediate care based
on the force/trauma. The neighbor took the dog
to the vet this morning. (we use the same vet).
I hadn't heard anything by midmorning and was
very worried so I called over to the office and they
didn't know anything yet that the dog had been
admitted and was being worked on.
Around 1pm, I called the neighbor to see how
she was, and if she heard anyone about the dog yet,
She then yelled/screamed at me for about 15-20 seconds
about how I had a lot of gawd-damn nerve calling the office,
yelled some more, and slammed the phone down.

I hope the dog is okay. I don't blame the neighbor for being upset with you
for calling the vet directly to inquire after the dog rather than calling
her first. I can understand your desire to know the dog's condition but it
seems sneaky to call the vet directly rather than wait on the owners to tell
you what happened. Its their dog afterall.
