For those of you who are old enough, what did you feed your dogs in the
1960's and 1970's? What kind of food, what brands? My mother fed our
dog's basically table scraps with an occational can of Mighty Dog or a
Gains Burger. In 77 we started feeding our new doberman Iams which at
that time came in blocks that you put in hot water and broke up. We also
fed her a food called Show Results that smelled like fish.

Got my first dog in the mid 70's. We fed him Ken-L-Ration Biskit (a
very plain dry food) and some "Skippy" canned food mixed in (pretty
sure we bought it because it had Snoopy on the label! ;-D).

Gaines dog food (in the 40s and 50s). It was dry and needed a little
water to make it nice for the dog. Worked great. Of course, in those
days, the dogs got to run around the neighborhood a lot more than they
can now. Burned up calories a lot more than now. We fed them bones,
too-- not pork or chicken, but beef mostly. As I recall, we never had
to clean their teeth. They just knawed the bones to clean their teeth.
Of course, I suspect their mouths smelled without all the dentist work.
But we all just put up with that, I guess. And paid a lot less than we
do today.

Now we have Science Diet and all the other wonderful dog foods.
Probably make the dogs' mouths smell better. And make them healthier.
