Default Question about Rimadyl

What are the longer term effects of Rimadyl on a dog?

I have a Miniature Dachshunds that weight about 19 pounds.
One vets seems worried about the amount of time he has been on the
medication, and another vet has told me that they have had dogs on this
medication for years without any side effects.

I am wondering what other people have heard about this medication,
and if anyone has ever had a bad experience with it.

Before starting Rimadyl, the vet should take a baseline blood test, then
repeat bloodwork (some say every 6 months, others say every 2-3 months) to
monitor liver and kidney function. If the medication gives a dog at the end
of life some quality of life, then the duration of the med may be irrelevant
to you. There are a lot of factors involved and many people here who have
had experience that I'm sure you'll get advice from. Remember that all pets
react differently to medications, and all medications have their ardent fans
as well as enemies. Gather your information and use it as a resource when
you talk with your vet next time.

I had a German shepherd on Rimadyl for more than three years. There
were no noticeable side effects. In the beginning I had her blood
checked every three months, then every six months, then never.
