Default Irish Wolfhound?

hi all, anyone know anything about the wolfhound?

I met a 7 month old one on sunday, such a big boy!! SOO sweet.

What are their personalities like? Anyone own one?

Thanks!

Cin

Their personalities vary like any breed but overall they are pleasant
companion dogs. They do *everything* bigger than a normal pup from
bigger puddles to bigger chewing errors. Some can be quite destructive.
IMO they need big open running spaces that are safe for a dog to run on
- so they need good solid recall training. IME positive reinforcement
training works quite well with them. The also seem to like to have
canine companions (no matter the size) though I hear some are so prey
driven smaller pets like small dogs and cats might be at risk.
Alas they are subject to several hereditary diseases and may die
young.
Just lost my epileptic wolfhound to bone cancer and she was only 5
1/2.Stats show about 25% of all IW die of bone cancer. They also have
hereditary issues like epilepsy and heart problems. But even so I very
much want another one...
