Default Getting a 'rescued' dog

Middle of next month, we'll be picking up a 4-year old bichon bitch who
has spent her entire life in a 'puppy mill' having one litter after
another. She will have almost zero 'people socialization' and probably
negligible 'potty training.' We have found several books so far and have
made arrangements with an obedience school for special attention and will
be working with our vet as well. Anyone have additional suggestions? I
hope puppy wizard doesn't notice this.

Thanks for rescuing this poor little dog, Jack! She's probably going
to be socially challenged for the rest of her life, but she can still
make for a wonderful little companion dog, and can give you many years
of affection and joy. Just don't expect any miracles. Good luck!

all the stuff HJM said. She's going to be counting on you for a lot,
so I hope you're up to the task (your preparation tells me that you
are). Best of luck with the little white fluffball, and keep us up on
her progress, ok?

1) Take extra time off beyond the
time necessary to goto the obedience
school with your dog. Spend that
extra face (socialization) time
exclusively with your new dog
to re-enforce your relationship.
when you first get her home spend
a day or two with her to work
on the housebreaking aspect and
after the the obedience school
take a few days off to be with her
to reinforce the training and
your relationship.

2) Find her something durable and
safe she'll chew if she shows signs
of chewing when frustrated.
