The best dog training is in person and isn't free. You can get free
training tips on the web, but since a lot of training is timing and
the body language, it is far better to find some place to take your
dog and get some training.

Your local library should have some good dog training books. If they
can't get the book you want they will often be able to get it through
inter-library loan. For most effective learning on your part you will
want someone who can watch you and help you become more aware of when you
are being too slow or too fast. A skilled observer can help you to avoid
developing bad habits that make it more difficult for your dog to
understand what is wanted. Usually people who provide a benefit to you
expect some recognition of their efforts. If providing monetary
compensation is beyond you then consider exchanging your own skills with
them. What things of value and use of others can you give to them?

Bah! Dog-training is based on a few well-understood principles. An
excellent, free dog-training book is available at
http://www.irishdogs.ie/ I'm glad I found this book when my dog was a
puppy, because now at age 4 she is a perfectly behaved companion who
eagerly obeys my every command.

I don't know what happened to the author's web site, but it seems to
be out of commission.

Charlie
