Default Is it a bad idea to feed one's dog two different kinds of dog food?

I've read and heard many places that one should try to feed one's dog
the same food over and over (besides the dog's treats, I mean), and
thus when one wants to switch dog food to do it gradually and then
stick with the new food over and over. I feed my 85 lb. lab mix about
twice a day, and for the last week or so I've been giving him "Lick
your chops" for his evening meal. But, at almost $1.50 / can I can
really afford to give it to him twice a day? Would it be better to
stick with the cheaper stuff consistently or is giving him "Lick your
chops" in the evening a good idea?
