Default established dog - new dog problems

Siberian Husky, male, 5 years old, housepet - recently lost his littermate
sister and lifelong pal due to canine sudden death syndrome. The remaining
dog was going through grief and had lost interest in everything. We just got
another Siberian from the local Rescue Station .. 1 year old male, recently
neutered. Having trouble getting the two to accept each other. Both dogs are
well behaved separately but are constantly sparring when put together.
Cannot have them off leash in the same space. They have not attacked or
bitten but it certainly appears that they will if allowed. Any constructive
suggestions?

May I ask why you chose to bring in a male instead of a female? I think you
are going to have a more difficult time than if you had gone with a
female... I'll try to be nice, but bringing in another male - and teen or
almost adult male - was probably not the most thought-out or smartest thing
to do.

Is this Rescue "reputable"? Many reputable rescues have a probation
period - if the dogs cannot get along, they would gladly take back the
rescue and try to set you up with a dog better for your situation.

They will take him back .. no problem. They agree that a female might be a
safer bet. We were just still hurting from losing our little girl and this
little fella was so attractive. Our male has never been aggressive and we
thought he would be so happy to have a pal aging that it would be ok. I
guess he sees him as a rival not a pal. Thanks for responding.

Hope the poor guy gets what he needs. Every once in awhile we all have to
try something like this, just to remember it is not going to work. Good
luck!
