Default Bulldogs

I am starting my "homework" on Bulldogs. I have found that there are
many different types, though I am not sure how many of those are
considered "real" Bullies. Anyhow, I am interested in anyone's input on
the different types (I am leaning toward an English Bullie). I must
admit I am very worried about the health problems, and I am not sure if
maybe one of the other types are more sound/healthy.

The other question is if anyone knows of good breeders? I have already
contacted the National club, so I know about that part. But I also know
that when you have a group of people so passionate about dogs, its
always good to ask if they know any.

I am a LONG way from purchasing a pup. But I figure its best to know
what I am doing when the time is right!

Thanks,
Rainy

You might consider the breed called the "Olde English Bulldogge".
A healthier alternative to the AKC English Bulldog.

how so? it's not my breed, but i did a little Googling and
can't find anything to indicate that OEB are automagically any
healthier than English Bulldogs.

also, what *is* an Olde English Bulldogge? i looked at their
registering body's website and it appears that they'll
register any dog, regardless of whether or not its parentage
is known or documented. their COE seems to leave a little
something to be desired, too. instead of addressing specific
health testing guidelines, it spells out things like dogs
should have shelter, food, and water and not be sold before 7
weeks of age.

the breed standard is, um, interesting. "free breeding"?
how, exactly, does one eradicate of *all* breathing problems
in a breed?

and what's up with the bad writing and crappy grammar? i
would think that an important official document would be
carefully proof read. the errors it contains makes it look
amateurish and, frankly, not very reputable.

(and, what the heck is an "Olde Boston Bulldogge"???)

"Iffin' ya don't gotz sumthin nice to say, then don't say nuffin' at all".

You'd be silent for *at least* a decade, sHelly. Honestly, you're net kop
in here just waiting to pounce on people for asking questions. You chase
people away, for God's sake.

Here's a tad bit of news for ya... you don't OWN this news group, so stop
trying. And here's a challenge for you:

Answer people like you were face to face w/them. You being the sales
person, and them being a customer.
Reply to folks who say thank you with you're welcome... not a slam that
they're ignorant.
Do this for one month.

And to the original OP. I wish you well on your quest for a Bullydog. Buy
several books on the breed (used if need be from Amazon). The books will
give you information without a bunch of snotty attitude.

Thank you for the advice. I have read a lot, and done lots of research
on the web too. Though I guess looking on amazon might bring up some
books that I have not yet read. I had just hoped to get a little insight
here is all. I want to do as much as I can to inform myself before I
jump in with both feet. I have even given thought to being a foster home
for a Bullie rescue, to give me a feel for how they are to actually live
with. And who knows, if I fall in love with one I would have first dibs
on it!

and then we can all have a group hug!1!! do you really want to live in
a world where people are afraid to voice dissent or divergent
viewpoints?

You'd be silent for *at least* a decade, sHelly.

so what, exactly, did i do to you? i tried being helpful and reasonable
to you long after most others had given up. the joke's on me, i guess.

Honestly, you're net kop
in here just waiting to pounce on people for asking questions.

criticizing crappy non-help != net copping.

You chase people away, for God's sake.

what, exactly, do you object to in my earlier post to this thread? i
think it's important to take a critical look at information, especially
when living beings are involved. so, when Person A asks for input on
various breeds and Person B says "Hey, you should look at Breed X
because it's healthier than Breed Y," i think it's important to take a
hyper critical look at the merits of Breed Y in relation to Breed X.
Which is what i attempted to do, only the information put forth by the
supposed guardians for Breed X didn't have anything particularly helpful
to say.

Here's a tad bit of news for ya... you don't OWN this news group, so stop
trying. And here's a challenge for you:

i do answer them as if i were face to face with them. maybe that's the
problem, as text-based media are a poor substitute for face-to-face
communication.

You being the sales person, and them being a customer.

as i'm sure you've already figured out, customer service is *so* not my
strong suit. we all have our crosses to shoulder, and, alas, that is my
handicap. besides, this is a *discussion* group. discussion frequently
involves exchange of dissenting points of view. if you don't like that,
perhaps you should join the Forum des Refuses?

Reply to folks who say thank you with you're welcome... not a slam that
they're ignorant.

i'm truly sorry if you thanked me and i neglected to acknowledge it.

Don't you know, shElLy, that unless you answer posts with sunshine and
lollipops that you are a bad, bad pewson? Nobody asks questions here to get
truthful, honest answers and an education - they just want to be snuggled
and huggled and kissed all over! Wubbles!

I still think this one's Mikey...
