Default Denver on a Dog "Witch Hunt"

Want a big dog, get a Lab or some such.
Scott

I wish you'd stop saying that. Most people with any brain get a dog because
of its personality, whether it be an individual or a breed they have come to
know, not its size. I love big dogs--but not specifically because they're
big. Sure, I like it that I don't have to bend over to pet my dog, but we
chose this breed (Great Dane) because of long personal histories with the
overwhelming good nature of the breed, especially around children (I was
pregnant at the time). They're reserved but friendly, gentle but playful,
very intelligent but not at all hard to train if you have experience
training this breed (real butt-heads if you just jump in cold after training
some push-button dog). I don't like it when people choose a dog "because
it's big", or small, or red, or whatever.

And anyway I don't consider labs--or pits--to BE big dogs, but that may just
be because of Saskia, here--I see her next to German Shepherds and things
and think, "Wow, I used to think that was a large breed". She does, I admit,
look big when she lies carefully down in front of our nine-month-old and
hold still for some lip-pulling and face-kicking (she really seems to enjoy
this, for some sort of reasons of her own). Pits, by the way, are one of her
favorite breeds to play with, because they're energetic and playful and
friendly and indestructible. They have been illegal here in this entire
country for about 15 years, and are still very popular. There hasn't been a
recorded attack in a VERY long time... not one in the 13 years I've lived
here, anyway.
