Folks, this poster has asked a question that I can read but with which I cannot offer much help. If you folks will provide answers in English, I will translate them back into the Dutch. The poster has asked about a Maltese recently adopted from a shelter. It chews its toes, and the vet says that this is an allergy that white dogs are prone to and that not much can be done. I have suggested trying a hypoallergenic food, but that's all I could think of. Suggestions for this poster? --Katrina |

There are veterinary dermatologists who may be able to learn what the allergy is to. It isn't necessarily food. My parent's dog was allergic to grass. Food allergies take a couple months to see if a change in diet helps. Staphylococcal (Staph) infections of the skin are common once the skin has been irritated by allergy. You have to control that infection otherwise you will never know if continued irritation is due to the allergy or the infection. -- Diane Blackman http://dog-play.com/ http://dogplay.com/Shop/dogplayshop.htm |
