Default Village Dog - another "What's the mix?"

Kobi is from Indonesia and is 10 months old, he weighs about 35
pounds. The owner has no idea what's in him.

I can't open the photos right now, so I have no idea what Kobi looks like.
But most dogs in a "non-organized-kennel-country" like I suppose Indonesia
is are not crosses between breeds we know here in Europe or America, but
they are more probably just local landrace dogs, crosses between different
types of these landrace dogs and sometimes crosses between landrace and
Western dog breeds.

Some landrace dog types will be herding type (if herding dogs are used in
that country), some are different types of hunting dogs, some might be
mostly for guarding and there even might be some smallish types which are
mostly pets without any other work. And then some are just plain pariah
dogs with nearly no selective breeding by man in their pedigree.

Oooooo! Purty. Really, really purty!

Liisa, he's a black masked brindle with short-ish (about Malinois length) hair,
and his base color is sort of a dark cream so the brindling really stands out.

I'd never be able to tell but yep, he looks pariah dog to me.

It's another day here, and now the photos can be opened. If that was a
Western dog, I'd guess that it might have Pit Bull, GSD and some Asian
breed like Korean Jindo in its pedigree. But as it is an Indonesan dog and
I really don't know which breeds are common there (except that pariah dogs
do exist), no idea. Something in its face looks very Asian - Asian breeds
have often smallish slanted eyes and fuller muzzle than Western breeds. The
body shape looks like dingo/pariah/Jindo/Thai Ridgeback, kind of "generic
dog". Same with ear and tail carriage. Coat is about identical to what
natural dog/wolf coat should look in Indonesian climate.

Color is masked sable brindle with no white just like Robin already
described, but I don't know which colors/patterns are common over there in
local dog populations. Sable is common in most pariah dog populations all
over the world. Brindle is common in some Japanese breeds and so it might
exist in South Asia too.

If it is mostly a pariah/village dog, it could be expected that it is
friendly towards its own family, shy or even mildly aggressive towards
total strangers, independent, a very good watch dog, have medium to heavy
prey drive, not too easy to train to high level obedience but basic
commands stuff should go ok. Healthwise very healthy but might be more
prone to get some diseases which don't exist where it comes from.

He looks like he has some of the New Guinea singing dog in him.

I think what you have there is a 100%
purebred Indonesian Spitz-esque Pariah-esque Village Hound.

Yup. From my one day with him, I'd say this Village Dog fits
the breed description perfectly. His owners picked up a good
roadside dog.

Not on his one day here.

He's a very friendly dog, and I hope his owner brings him back
here for more socialising and training. I forsee see him
becoming much more dominant as he grows older. Right now, he
accepts humping as part of life, though I don't think that'll
continue for long.

If he *were* a mix of breeds, I'd say greyhound and Akita. G

The brindle pattern looks like some greyhounds. And it would thin out the
Akita.
